Wristcutters: A Love Story
i watched this movie at the recommendation of my friend lauren. it's not a spoiler to tell you that it's about a place where people who commit suicide go after they die. that world is just like this world, only a little suckier. i don't find suicide a funny subject. or a fun subject. or a comfortable subject. i've known too many who went that route. but...i watched it. and i have to say, the movie hooked me as soon as the voice-over said, "after i killed myself, i got this job at Kamikaze Pizza." i mean, what a way to start a story. and there's a beat-up old subaru in the movie. i love subarus. always have. the soundtrack is goofy. and...it's just a sweet story. not overly sweet, obviously. just....sweet enough. it doesn't glamorize suicide in the least, for which i'm grateful. it glamorizes life. well, not glamorizes--that's not the right word. it sells life. it makes you realize that it's worth the investment, even if the yield is modest. just...don't try so hard, okay? this movie: thumbs up. thanks, lauren :)

hmmm sounds like an interesting movie i'll have to check it out. you planning to read either of lauren's book recommendations? "veronika decides to die" seems to be in a similarly morbid vein, and i might read that later this week.
i plan to pick up "the alchemist."
well if you want i've already picked up both, if you can wait a few days you can borrow my copy and we can swap later on.:)
congrats on the eye doctor visit - i hate seeing eye doctors as well.
I have to say one of my favorite details was the black hole under the passenger-side seat of the car. :)
So, have you gotten around to reading "The Alchemist" or "Veronika Decides to Die" yet? Great books! You should read them both. They're short and sweet.
i agree with lauren you definitely should read both - veronika decides to die isn't as much about suicide as you might think given the title, it's more about learning to be yourself and, erh, being thought crazy as a result. Somehow it ends up being quite positive though.
I have both read if you want to borrow one or the other...
there are far worse things than being thought crazy, such as...giving a shit what anybody thinks :)
i'll do that, once i finish "the eyre affair." yeah, i got stalled, but i'm still enjoying it.
