Run Lola Run

this film had two things going for it: maddog and mira. they BOTH recommended it, so we're off to a great start! but then it had a lot of not-so-good things going for it. first, it's german. that's a biggie. i just don't like german things. i'm sorry, and i hope nobody is offended by that. i realize that my name is german, and i suppose that ethnically i'm more german than anything else, but i don't consider myself german. never have, never will. i wasn't raised speaking german or with german traditions or eaten german food or rooting for germany during the olympics or world cup. it means nothing at all to me. i'm not german. i don't care for german food. there's beer just as good or better in other countries, i'm not a big pretzel person, the poles make better sausage. i've never wanted a german car. i don't like any german writers, or music, or art. i've never wanted to visit germany. maybe one of those christmas markets, but that's it. oh, and the language? ugly. i'm sorry, i just don't like german things. so, that's bad. having to listen to people speak german during the film. that's bad. constant techno music throughout the film. that's bad. maybe it's just me, but i can't associate techno with anything positive. seems like every time i've heard it in a soundtrack or a music video, bad things happen. oh, and then there's running. there's a lot of running in this movie. and i realize neither maddog nor mira had a way of knowing this, but one the worst movies i ever spent money to watch was a michael douglas movie called Running. see? it's so bad that amazon only has a version for Region 2! some friends and i went to see it went it came out in 1979. awful. dreadful. the only thing i remember about it was that it was awful. dreadful. and featured running. but...people seem to like Run Lola Run. maddog, mira, the reviews on the cover, the reviews on amazon. i viewed it with a very open mind and...what do you know? i....didn't like it. sorry, y'all. i tried. really, i did. but...i couldn't get into it. it never drew me in. it seemed like the movie was more about the movie than the characters. you were very aware that this was a movie--it never let you forget that fact. you couldn't get lost in the story and forget you're watching a movie. but perhaps it had to be more about technique and gimmicks and images because the characters were so...unappealing. i didn't care about any of them. so....i'm sorry, y'all. oh, wait--i just thought of another good thing about it: it's only 81 minutes long! but, i want to thank you, maddog & mira, for suggesting that i watch it. i'm glad i did, because it just confirmed for me that i like german cinema about as much as i like german music or anything else german. oh, but i like german people, of course (in case any german people are reading this).

I know you already said that you pretty much dislike all things german, but have you watched The Lives of Others?I saw that in the theater and really enjoyed it.
