cold days with playoff football call for a spicy soup. so say i. and i found a nice, easy such soup in tom kime's Balancing Flavors East & West. i bought the book (hardcover) for $2.97 and, since amazon is offering the same book new for $4.65 and there's not a single review for it, i'm wondering if i'm the only person to ever buy it. i quite like this recipe, though. it's simple and delicious with a nice combination of flavors: spicy sausage (i used andouille), canned beans, roasted cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, and some balsamic vinegar. along with some of my freshly baked sourdough bread, it was exactly what i wanted.
