i'm starting the Year of Cheap Cookbooks off with a recipe from Savory Baking, which was a christmas gift this year (you can't get a cookbook for cheaper than that!). these peppered pear & goat cheese scones aren't for everybody, but that's a good thing 'cause it means more for me. they are really, really good. sweet bosc pear, tangy goat cheese, and a kick from the 1¼ tsp of freshly ground black pepper in a tender scone. i had mine slightly warm from the oven this afternoon with a cup of earl grey, hot. so good, so easy. it's the first recipe in the book, which bodes well for the rest of the book. the recipe says to divide the dough into 6 scones, which i did. they are rather large, so you could easily make them into 8 smaller ones. happy new year, everyone!
