rye is everybody always picking on me?

you can't ryete about rye without a pun or two, ryete? oddly, neither the huge safeway nor the large giant food store here sells rye flour. it's a conspiryeacy! so i schlepped all the out to whole foods, and all they sell is a small 2-lb bag (and they only had 1 in stock!). argh! i went ahead and bought it, as well as another bag of semolina (obviously, i can't get that at safeway or giant, either. i'll try the health food store nearby). meanwhile, i walked by the bakery at whole foods and, on a lark, asked the baker if they would sell me some of their sourdough starter. the answer is no, but they gave me some :) i'm going to feed it and see if i can keep it alive and try baking something with it soon! oh, and i am making both the poolish and the biga ciabatta's today, and i'm using the pate fermentee to make reinhart's pane siciliano tomorrow. keep checking this site :)
