Caterpillar Bread

i'm sorry i didn't find this recipe last week, because maddog was telling me the other she wanted to make pigs-in-a-blanket for the nfl's opening weekend. this is a fun variation. i wanted to use kielbasa instead of regular franks, though, and i thought a rye bread would work better than the sweet bun used in the original recipe. i found this russian rye on the king arthur flour website which not only was a good slavic match for my kielbasa, but also let me use more of my malted barley syrup :) i also added some dried minced onion to the dough for a little more flavor. now, if you clicked on the original recipe, you'll see that they squirted mayo & ketchup all over it before making . two things you'll never see me adding to a hot dog--and especially not to polish sausage--are mayo and ketchup. the proper condiment for this is spicy deli mustard. this is a good party appetizer, and would fit right in alongside a cheese platter and an assortment of pickles. and beer.
